Devlog #9 - Juice, More Juice
Hello hello, Guys5 back again with another devlog! So, what have we been up to? Well ever since the playtest that we talked about in our previous devlog we have been hard at working at all the new features and polish that was recommended to us by our testers.
Luka is in the middle of developing a nice dodging system in the game and James has been looking at the UI. Dawid has been hard at making the main character model and it is almost finished, while Dorian has been making our levels look and feel amazing. “So, what is the topic of today’s devlog?” you might ask. Fran has spent the past week exploring the amazing world of visual effects, so that’s what we will be talking about today.
As Fran has never done VFX before in his life, it is safe to assume it came with a lot of struggles and mild annoyances, but it was nothing that a little time and effort couldn’t solve. As hack and slashes need to feel very polished and juiced, we had the idea that exploring VFX early would be a good idea so we can take the time while we have it to really explore what is possible in this area.
We have already shown you the slash effects we made, and while Fran wants to make them look and feel even better, it will take a bit of time. But what we have done so far in the area is an amazing ground crack for one of our combos and a smoke effect with a breaking box. Isn’t that cool? Now hitting those boxes will feel even better than it already did!
So, what’s next? Fran will have a go at the slash effects on the swords, along with some other cool effects he has in mind, but we don’t want to spoil anything. All we can promise is it will blow you guys away! That’s it for this week
See you soon!
